So Far, So Good

Last weekend was the official start of the new training season and a nice 35 minute jog (funny only if the "j" is silent.) Yesterday, after a shakey start, I managed 5 miles on the treadmill although my MP3 battery life crapped out 1/3 of the way through. This would be lovely and encouraging if not for the fact that a while back, I commited myself to a race team and thought I'd be in shape to run a 1o miler this Saturday.
On the plus side, I ran the 5 treadmill miles and felt like I could have kept going. On the minus side, a treamill is a lot less impact than the lakefront path. The finish line for this weekend is on the Soldier Field 50-yard line and your image put up on the jumbo-tron. What remains to be seen is if my giant image will be of relief & victory or hobbling pain.

Back to the Beginning

Yesterday I ran 4.25 miles on the tredmill without incident, thanks in part to an IT band strap which I've come to like very much. Its primary function is to take the stress off of my knee if the IT band starts to tighten up. One fortunate side-effect of this little thing is peace of mind.
In my previous "gettin' back" attempts I worried about re-injuring myself, which made me tense, which might have led to a relapse.
I saw one of my former comrade's pictures from the Nashville marathon and got a little choked up.
I'm glad to be back in the game, patched up, and in pursuit of my frikin' "Finisher" T-shirt.
